Measuring employee engagement at your organization can be complicated and often the results don’t give you enough data or detail to take action and create impactful change.

eNPS and The Engagement Index: How to identify the true drivers of engagement at your organization

By leveraging two important engagement key performance indicators (KPIs), the Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) and The Engagement Index, you gain a clear picture of your company’s culture. Together, these engagement KPIs will help you identify where to focus and what actions to take to improve your culture and ultimately, your bottom line.

The Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS)

eNPS focuses on measuring employee advocacy. It tells you how workers feel about your organization using one simple question: “How likely are you to recommend us as a place to work?” Employees answer this question on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being the least likely to recommend your company, and 10 being the most likely.

Responses are then sorted into three categories: promoters, with ratings of nine or 10, passives or neutrals, with ratings of seven or eight, and detractors, with ratings of six or below.

The eNPS score is the difference between your happiest employees and least happy employees. It’s calculated by subtracting the percentage of detractors from the percentage of promoters. eNPS scores can range from +100 (all responses are promoters) to -100 (all responses are detractors), and gives you an overall score for how satisfied your workplace is.

The Engagement Index

The Engagement Index goes deeper and looks to diagnose your culture and the drivers that build up engagement and impact eNPS.

Although eNPS measures how loyal an employee is to your organization, it doesn’t tell you why employees rated the way they did or what to do next with that information to improve your eNPS and drive greater employee engagement.

This is where the Engagement Index comes in. The Engagement Index shows you how engaged your employees are based on “how cognitively, emotionally, and behaviorally invested they are in their work,” and exactly where you should focus your efforts to improve.
