📰Young People Are Going To Save Us All From Office Life📰
Hi there!
I'm hesitant to share things people might have seen before, and the link above, written by Claire Cain Miller and Sanam Yar in the New York Times, blew up my social feeds last week. It also might be behind the NYT paywall for you.
I still had to share it, because it's a fascinating trend piece. The authors interview lots of people in their 20s and 30s who are centering their jobs around their lives, instead of the other way around.
[E]mployees say that when they’re not forced to cleave life from work, they work more, and more efficiently.
That's fascinating. I actually love "office life". I don't need to be saved! For me, work-life balance is really being off the clock when I'm not at my desk. Someone with a flexible work schedule cited in the piece says she checks Slack on vacation (no thank you!), but would never have done that at her old, more traditional job.
Is office life something we need to be saved from, or just something that we can stand to cut back on? I'm still not sure.
