Hi there,

A few weeks ago, I went with a coworker to A Human Workplace gathering here in Seattle.

The topic: Gratitude at work.

I'm really familiar with recognition and appreciation at work - TINYpulse did a whole report on it last year. Gratitude felt more intimidating, more intimate. One of the exercises we did was to write a thank-you letter to someone we knew through work - and then to go read it aloud to them. (I did it! It was intense.)

Researchers testing five different exercises found that the "gratitude visit" had the greatest positive effect on participants’ happiness one month later. I believe it.

One of my gratitude role models is Kevin Monroe - and he's starting a 10-day gratitude challenge on July 22nd. I signed up - you can join me here. It'll send gratitude prompts to your email.

Let me practice now: I'm grateful that you've subscribed to this email and that you've read this far. Thanks so much!

Gratefully,

Tyler

How to Appreciate Yourself a Little More

Last week I made a big mistake.

I thought my team could deliver the design strategy by the end of last week. I was wrong. We needed more time. I put my team in a bad situation because I felt pressure from our partners to get them something that they could use.

The dialogue in my head was vicious.

With Gratitude, Showing Gratitude

A few years back, my family and I started implementing a practice that was recommended to me by a mentor of mine, Warren Rustand.

His advice was, after your stay at a hotel had come to an end, leave a handwritten note thanking the person who cleaned your room along with a monetary tip.
