It turns out that the industry that ranked highest for employee happiness was Construction & Facilities Services. So we looked at the responses from these workers to find out just what makes their workplace so engaging.
By far, the top two drivers of workplace happiness were satisfaction with their colleagues and satisfaction with the nature of their job and projects.
Sure, other variables like work environment, professional growth, and the quality of management teams are in there. But this evidence shows a disproportionate weight given to the work they do and the people they do that work with.
So if you want to bump up employee engagement in your organization, your first step should be to take a look at how your people fit together and how they fit with their specific jobs.
