When you’re on the hunt for top talent, it’s a good idea to go into interviews prepared. While you’ll need to assess their technical skills, you also should be ready to throw in some questions that’ll keep candidates on their toes — which is what top companies are doing as part of their recruitment strategies.
But we can only imagine what job candidates thought when they were asked the Top 10 Oddball Interview Questions for 2016 as compiled by Glassdoor.
Be glad it wasn’t you getting asked this stuff. Or was it?
1. Space Exploration Technologies
When a hot dog expands, in which direction does it split and why?
2. Whole Foods Market
Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
3. Dropbox
If you’re the CEO, what are the first three things you check about the business when you wake up?
4. Urban Outfitters
What would the name of your debut album be?
5. J.W. Business Acquisitions
How would you sell hot cocoa in Florida?
6. Hubspot
If I gave you $40,000 to start a business, what would you start?
7. Trader Joe’s
What would you do if you found a penguin in the freezer?
8. Boston Consulting Group
If you were a brand, what would be your motto?
9. Delta Air Lines
How many basketballs would fit in this room?
10. Uniqlo
If you had $2,000, how would you double it in 24 hours?
Some of these could make sense within the company’s culture, and maybe some have some meaning — maybe, for example, Delta’s trying to suss out a candidate’s sense of physical volume. But some of these are just plain odd, don’t you think?
Also: I’d prefer the horse-sized duck.
