12 Easy Ways to Thank Your Coworkers

Love the people you work with? If so, you’re not alone. We found out in our Employee Engagement Report that coworkers are the number one thing employees love about their jobs.

As the old saying goes, you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. The closer employees are to one another, the more productive the team will become.

One of the easiest ways to build camaraderie among colleagues is by simply recognizing their efforts and thanking them for their hard work and their help. Stumped on ideas as to how you can say thank you to your coworkers? We’ve got you covered:

01. Give a handwritten note

If you’re on the go and don’t have much time to spare, a simple email may suffice. But if you really want your colleague to know how much you appreciate them, take the time to write a heartfelt note. When’s the last time someone gave you a handwritten note, anyway?


02. Buy a cup of coffee

Whether you’re running to the coffee shop before work or taking a break to grab a late-morning cappuccino, chances are at least one of your peers could use a jolt of caffeine.


03. Pick up an after-work bar tab

Invite your coworker out to grab a few drinks after work and pick up the check. Who doesn’t like free drinks?


04. Compliment them in a public setting

Even the most modest people are probably OK with you singing their praises in public (maybe). Next time you’re in a meeting, you may want to speak up about how your coworker has been killing it.


05. Bake some cookies

Show up to the office with a tray of freshly baked cookies, and you’ll quickly become your coworkers’ favorite colleague.


06. Get a gift card

If you’re finding it difficult to pick out a present, snag a gift card to a restaurant or Amazon instead. You can’t go wrong.


07. Talk to them privately

Is the coworker you want to thank an introvert? If so, take them aside and speak to them in a private setting. That way, they won’t be embarrassed publicly.

Speak privately with your boss about how awesome your colleague is. It’s almost certain your boss will relay that information to the coworker in question.


09. Offer to lend a hand

Let your coworker know that you appreciate their support. Tell them not to hesitate to ask you to lend a hand in the future.


10. Write about it on LinkedIn

Did your coworker recently do something incredible at the office? Broadcast their talents in a coveted LinkedIn endorsement.


11. Make something for them

Do you paint? Sew? Write poems? If you’ve got the skills, spend an hour or so making a gift for your colleague with your hands — a truly thoughtful present.


12. Take them out for lunch

Even the most ardent workaholic needs to break for lunch (at least every now and again). When it’s warranted, invite your coworker out for lunch and pick up the tab.

By making it a priority to regularly thank your colleagues when they go above and beyond, you help create stronger relationships. In turn, a work culture characterized by trust and support is established. Employees are happy to come to work to see their friends. And together, the team — with everyone in it together — works hard to reach organizational goals. Everybody wins.
