Optimized-iStock_000048763366_SmallStuffing, turkey, pumpkin pie — it's finally almost Thanksgiving, and I'm looking forward to my food coma.

However, the downfall of Thanksgiving is that it falls on a Thursday. So unless your company has designated the Friday after as a paid holiday, you're either forced to go into work, use PTO, or call in sick.

Last month I posted a poll asking people who is working on Black Friday. As promised, here are the results:

BlackFriday

A little over one-third of employees don't have the day after Thanksgiving off. So let's see what they're planning to do with that.

40% of employees who don't have Black Friday off don't plan on showing up to work. And that 60% that are? Well, you can bet that most of them won't be very engaged at their job.

So here's a great idea for employee recognition: make the Friday after Thanksgiving a paid holiday for the company! Your staff will have an extra day to spend with their family and rest up. They'll come back into work on Monday feeling refreshed and recharged.
