Is money really the way to an employee's heart? Yes and no. Yes in terms of they need money to survive. No meaning that organizations can't just hand an employee a dollar and say "good job."
Employee appreciation goes beyond money or material goods.
Financial means of recognition still needs to be supplemented by genuine appreciation. If you're going to tell an employee (or peer) they've done a good job, you need to also let them know exactly what they've done well.
Socialcast put together an infographic that details some unique findings:
- 85% of U.S. workers like to have their efforts recognized
- 78% of U.S. workers report that being recognized motivates them at their job
- 69% of employees said they'd work harder if they felt their efforts were better appreciated
