One Woman’s Hilarious Reaction to Her Company’s Dress Code

June J. Rivas was having an issue with her boss. It had to do with her manager’s belief that she had the right to micromanage Rivas’s appearance. It’s a problem many women of color in the workplace face.

Rivas explained in a now-deleted Facebook post, So my boss didnt like me wearing my hair in a ponytail every day . . . nor my hair in a scarf . . . nor my hair in pigtails.” Her contract demands only that employees be “clean and pressed.” Which she was.

Rivas filed a harassment complaint against her boss, who responded by instituting an office-wide dress code that explicitly ruled out headscarves. So now, wrote Rivas, No any of above, plus no straps, hats, sandals, cleavage, lace, and even (and I quote) 'cultural head wraps.’”

Rivas has since reported her bosss discriminatory policy to the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She’s also decided to rethink her wardrobe to make a point and have some fun. Her outfits comply completely within the new dress code. They’re just . . . um . . . different.

Rivass protest has turned out to be quite a thing, with lots of other people joining in. Some are doing it to stand with her, and some simply enjoy cosplay. Either way, it’s likely her boss wishes she’d never started the whole thing.
