Once a month, we ask employees at over 500 companies around the world how happy they are at work. We separated each company into 14 different industries then calculated the average happiness score for each organization.
For this award, we analyzed the results by calculating the average happiness score for each company in the different industries to find out winners.

What we find most impressive about this luxury cruise liner company is they care about their employees. Leadership qualities are evident throughout the company with employees engaged in giving back to the community and to the world.
The President of Holland America, Orlando Ashford believes that people are the most important asset in a company. In his recently published book ”Talentism,” he explains how important it is to invest in employees,
“When you invest they do their best and will reap more satisfaction from their work.”
He’s a champion of employee engagement by offering “coffee engagement sessions” with small groups to connect with Holland America’s employees.
We got a chance to speak with the team to go behind the scenes of the organization to find out what makes Holland America Line one of the best places to work.
Q: What was the funniest recognition you’ve ever received?
A: We really didn’t have any Cheers that went out that were overtly funny, sorry to say. All the Cheers collected were genuine, heartfelt, and just solid pats on the back.
Q: What kind of fun activities does your company participate in?
A: We have a dedicated group of people who are constantly thinking of fun and different activities and events to help break up the work day, keep people smiling, and the environment fresh.
Activities can be anything from scavenger hunts, cook-offs, bringing in espresso carts and food trucks, catered lunches, individual milestone recognition (personal or professional), etc. This team lives outside of the box and is always looking for the next fun discovery.
