Hi there,

Did you catch the Pixar-produced short Purl when it came out in February? If not, it's worth the eight-and-a-half minute watch. It tells the story of "an earnest ball of yarn named Purl who gets a job in a fast-paced, high energy, bro-tastic start-up", and it's Pixar produced, so it made me cry a little.

I think Purl is about a lot of things, but it's a really good commentary on culture fit. Without spoiling it, Purl feels a lot of pressure to fit in.

"Culture fit" sounds nice, but it's getting a lot of scrutiny. Our CEO David is speaking on this topic in a few weeks in Seattle (if you're in the area, register here!). His talk is titled:

Is Hiring Based On Culture Fit Killing Workplace Diversity?

I think it's a question worth asking. If you're hiring someone to fit in, that's going to make it harder to build a versatile, diverse team. This week's posts propose some different phrases and frames. "Culture add", "cultural impact", "culture adaptability"...what are you looking for when you add someone to your team? Let me know in a reply to this email!

Cheers,

Tyler
